Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph Yawen and Mulin’s gorgeous wedding at The Quadrangle Club, at the University of Chicago. They started the day by getting ready at the venue. Yawen was accompanied by her two best friends and her trusty companion, Pumpkin—their adorable little Corgi with quite the personality! (Pumpkin stole the show the entire day!)
Once the couple was ready to go, we headed to the University of Chicago’s campus for their first look and couple’s portraits. The groomsmen struggled a bit to get the hang of their boutonnieres, but once they figured it out, we were ready to go! As is the case with many couples, Mulin was a bit camera-shy, but Yawen took the lead and knew exactly what to do! She molded Mulin like a clay based on my prompts. It was quite hilarious and I believe they both had a ton of fun doing it. I enjoyed documenting the chemistry between them. These two were a blast to work with, and I felt honored to share in their special day.
The Venue | The Quadrangle Club
The Quadrangle Club is such a beautiful venue that features a sophisticated, academic aesthetic. Whimsical ivy climbs the walls outside, and candlestick chandeliers give off a warm, inviting glow in the banquet hall. Velvety red carpet lines the staircase for an ultra-luxe look.
This unique venue was established in 1893 for faculty members to meet and discuss art, literature, and science. The venue has grown into a much larger facility over the years, and today it is one of Chicago’s premier wedding venues. The historic architecture features numerous intricate details that create a rich, dreamy canvas for any wedding.
Every time I visit The Quadrangle, I imagine I’m wearing a long, black cape, and instead of my camera, I am holding a magic wand. The venue’s scholarly atmosphere makes you feel like you jumped into a scene from Harry Potter! While it is an event venue, they also have several rooms where the bride and groom can get ready beforehand. I love when weddings can have both the ceremony and reception all in one place, so guests don’t have to worry about commuting through Chicago traffic.
The Space | Layout Details
When you choose the historic Quadrangle Club as your wedding venue, you will have access to several rooms on the property. The largest room is the Main Dining Room, which is suitable for large weddings. Other unique spaces are available for cocktail hour, your ceremony, and rehearsal dinner. Depending on availability, you may be able to book guest rooms so you, your friends, and family can stay overnight.

Later, he graduated from the Illinois Institute of Art, and now he provides guests of The Quadrangle Club an unparalleled dining experience for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
